This CD contains: CALVIN, JOHN Shunning the Unlawful Rites of the Ungodly and Preserving the Purity of the Christian Religion Herein Calvin maintains the sinfulness of outward conformity to false worship. Dealing with a major problem of his day, Calvin answers the question, "Is it lawful for a person who has renounced Popery in his heart to conform outwardly to its rites, for the purpose of avoiding persecution, or for any other cause?"He shows that false worship should never be tolerated or participated in (even by your bodily presence), no matter what the cost -- whether it be persecution, exile, or death. For his faithfulness in this matter, he was greatly scorned. Obvious parallels to our day abound, not the least of which include the Lordship controversy, false ecumenism, rampant idolatry in the false rites maintained in the public worship of apostate Protestantism, and in the rise of Roman Catholic harlot. This book is available on all the Reformation Bookshelf CDs in the "Free Books" file. CALVIN, JOHN The True Method of Giving Peace to Christendom and of Reforming the Church (1548) A clear call to reject Romish rites, idolatry, and all methods of reform not true to Scripture. Calvin shows why compromises with lukewarm adherents of Protestantism, modern day Nicodemites so to speak, must be rejected. Even Calvin's beloved friend Melancthon receives a rebuke here, as Calvin steadfastly proclaims the path of duty, though it would mean persecution and death at the hand of Rome for some. In spite of the severe hardships his teaching would cause, Calvin maintained the impossibility of reconciling two systems so discordant as Popery and Protestantism - for matters of eternity were (and are) involved here. Eire's War Against the Idols ($29.95) sets the context of these debates, which are being renewed again in our day. DOOLITTLE, THOMAS Popery is a Novelty; and the Protestants' Religion Was Not Only Before Luther, But the Same that Was Taught by Christ and His Apostles (1675, reprinted 1845) FAIRBAIRN, PATRICK The Prophetical Future of the Church and Kingdom of Christ, in their Relation to the Character, Working, and Fate of the Antichristian Apostasy FAIRCLOUGH, RICHARD The Nature, Possibility, and Duty, of a True Believer's Attaining to a Certain Knowledge of His Effectual Vocation, Eternal Election, and Final Perseverance to Glory (1675, reprinted 1845) The biblical doctrine of assurance discussed, showing that the "Papal doctrine of denying the possibility of assurance is false," and how it "hath a dangerous tendency to destroy the true peace and comfort of souls in the certain hopes of everlasting happiness." FLEMING, ROBERT The Rise and Fall of the Papacy (1848) WYLIE, J.A. The Papacy is the Antichrist (1888)This book is included among the many other FREE books in the "FREE bonus books" file on the CD. WYLIE, JAMES A. The Papacy: Its History, Dogmas, Genius, and Prospects (1889 edition)In its day, this book, of 572 pages, won the Evangelical Alliance first prize for an essay on Popery. "With all we have read of Popery, we have yet met with nothing in the English language which we regard to be so complete in itself, and so overwhelmingly destructive to Romanism," noted the Evangelical magazine. When this book first appeared in German, the Papists were careful to give it the "silent treatment," lest an inquiring Papist should hear of it and be inclined to read it. These same Romanists (later) also invoked the civil power against it,so fearful were they of its contents. ON THE JESUITS FULTON, JUSTIN D. Washington in the Lap of Rome (1888)"Romanism is Antichrist, pure and simple" (p. 33). Justin D. Fulton doesn't mince his words in this book (of 265 pages) expressing concern over the growing influence of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States in the late 1800s. Fulton is just as sharp describingIgnatius Loyola'swounding, before Loyola conceived of creating theJesuit Order: "A cannon-shot hit the leg of a scoundrel instead of his head, as in Spain he stood before Pampileuno's walls. For religion, catholicity and man, that was the unluckiest cannon-shot recorded in history; for when the tibia of the wounded patient knitted they marvelously supported the body of a man who with the heart of a devil has been permitted to masquerade in the robes of a saint" (p. 36, Of course we don't believe in "luck" as such -- ed.).Speaking of the Jesuits, Fulton writes, "They work in darkness, and they oppose the truth. . . . Their history is a continued series of associations, massacres of innocent people, conspiracies and machinations against existing laws and orders. The masses they have incited to revolt, and the rulers to bloody and fruitless wars. Corruption they sow broadcast over the land in order to further their doctrines of treason, perjury, falsehood, and murder" (p. 46). JESUITS The Secret Instructions of the Jesuits (1824 edition, Latin & English texts included)A shocking little book that exposes the black Pope (the Jesuit General) and his murdermen. This edition includes the Latin and English texts side by side. Its 17 chapters include, "How to induce rich widows to be liberal to the Society," "How to pick out young men and to retain them," "How to feign a contempt of riches" and 14 more. Also included are 12 appendices. 132 pages. KNOX, JOHN An Answer to a Jesuit: The Marks of a True Church and Ministry McCARTY, BURKE The Suppressed Truth About the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln (c. 1922). McCarty was an ex-Romanist turned Freemason, thus we are noting right up front that this is not a Christian book and should be read with extreme care (for much that is evil is mixed in with the useful information the book contains). We are making this book available because it contains hard to findresearch and documentation of the intrigues that are regularly practiced by Papists and Jesuits alike, in their quest for world domination (corroborating the statements of other famous ex-Romanists like the ex-Priest turned Presbyterian, Charles Chiniquy -- who was a friend of Abraham Lincoln (cf. Chiniquy'sFifty Years In the Church of Rome, chapter 61, [$19.97 P, $34.00 HP]). McCarty's book demonstrates that Rome was behind Lincoln's assassination, as well as chronicling other assassinations and assassination attempts on American Presidents in which Rome was involved. It also contains a copy of the wicked Jesuit Oath and much else that implicates both Rome and the Jesuits for the ecclesiastical Antichrists they are. Noteworthy in this regard is the following statement from the author's introduction, I feel safe in stating that nowhere else can be found in one book the connected presentation of the story leading up to the death of Abraham Lincoln, which was instigated by the "Black" pope, the general of the Jesuit Order , camouflaged by the "White" pope, Pius IXth, aided and abetted and financed by other "Divine Righters" of Europe, and finally consummated by the Roman Hierarchy and their paid agents in this country and French Canada on "Good Friday" night, April 14th, 1865, at Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C. I am convinced that if this knowledge can be given adequate distribution and placed in possession of the boys and girls of the public elementary schools, for whom it is especially designed to reach, that the wicked boast of the Jesuits and their lay agents, the Knights of Columbus, to "MAKE AMERICA CATHOLIC" can never be accomplished. Also demonstrates that "from the earliest times the Roman Church advocated human slavery," which "in short, was a basis for the wealth of the Papacy" (p. 71). 255 pages. MACPHERSON, HECTOR The Jesuits in History WYLIE, JAMES A. The Jesuits CONSPIRACY & SECRET SOCIETIES GEORGE, R.J. Secret Societies ROBINSON, JOHN Proofs of a Conspiracy Against all the Religions and Governments of Europe, Carried on in the Secret Meetings of Free Masons, Illuminati, and Reading Societies (1798) CLASSIC CHRISTIAN MAGAZINES (& ARTICLES) STEELE, DAVID, editor The Contending Witness, The Reformation Advocate and The Original Covenanter magazines The following list of magazines, edited by David Steele, comprise what is likelythe best compilation of Christian periodicals ever amassed under one set of bindings. Nothing we know of (before or since), authored as magazine articles related to full-orbed nation shaking biblical Reformation, even comes close to the consistent quality of writing found in these short works on various subjects. Steele himself should probably be considered the best theologian of the nineteenth century, and the other contributors to these magazines were all approaching the same class. A healthy portion of Steele's writing is found in these magazines, as he only wrote a few other books, so the reader is encouraged to sample for himself some of the best writing (defending the Covenanted Reformation) you will find anywhere! 1. The Contending Witness magazine (Vol. 1:1-2:6, Apr. 1841 to Feb. 1843, 288 pages)2. The Reformation Advocate magazine (Vol. 1:1-1:12, March 1874 to Dec. 1876, 384 pages)3. The Original Covenanter magazine (Vol. 2:1-2:16, July 1877 to Dec. 1880, 512 pages)4. The Original Covenanter magazine (Vol. 3:1-3:16, March 1881 to Dec. 1884, 516 pages) ASSOCIATE PRESBYTERIAN MAGAZINE The Ancient and Modern Mode of Singing the Psalms (Sept., 1863)Historically demonstrates how the Old Testament saints, the early New Testament Christians and almost all Presbyterians (after adopting the Westminster Standards) sang the Psalms by "lining them out" (e.g. see theWestminster Directory for Public Worship).Musical instruments, a Papal innovation, were also unheard of among faithful Reformers and "denominated the ensigns of Baal." COVENANTER MAGAZINE The Right of Dissent from an Immoral Civil Government ORIGINAL COVENANTER MAGAZINE The Day of the Sabbath (1883) SECOND REFORMATION SYMINGTON, ANDREW, editor Lectures on the Principles of the Second Reformation (1841)Written by ministers of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Scotland, this book contains the following chapters: "Introductory Lecture on the Principles of the Second Reformation" by Andrew Symington; "The Headship of Christ Over His Church and Her Independent Jurisdiction" by James Ferguson; "Evils, Constitutional and Practical, of the Prelactic Establishment of the British Empire" by Thomas Nelson; "The Revolution Settlement of the Church of Scotland: Its Provisions, in several Respects, Inconsistent with the Approved Principles of the Second Reformation" by John Graham; "Patronage Opposed to the Independence of the Church, and to the Scriptural Rights of the Christian People" by W.H. Goold; "Headship of Christ Over the Nations" by Andrew Symington; "Nature and Obligation of Public Vows; with an Explanation and Defence of the British Covenants" by William Symington; "The Sin and Danger of Union Between the Church of Christ and an Immoral or Antichristian Civil Government" by Stewart Bates; and "The Evil of Relaxed Discipline in the Church" by John Milwan. 472 pages. A classic introduction to second Reformation thought! HUTCHISON, MATTHEW The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Scotland: Its Origin and History, 1680-1876 This book is a fine illustration of the "footsteps of the flock," (as seen in the Protesters [paleopresbyterians] and their spiritual posterity), during the period of which it deals, while at the same time serving as a clear warning to those who have declined from Reformation attainments (i.e. the Resolutioners [neopresbyterians] and those who continue their deformation of the faith). Thomas Sproull writes, "By the National Covenant our Fathers laid Popery prostrate. By the Solemn League and Covenant they were successful in resisting prelatic encroachments and civil tyranny. By it they were enabled to achieve the Second Reformation... They were setting up landmarks by which the location and limits of the city of God will be known at the dawn of the millennial day... How can they be said to go forth by the footsteps of the flock, who have declined from the attainments, renounced the covenants and contradicted the testimony of 'the cloud of witnesses.'... All the schisms (separations) that disfigure the body mystical of Christ... are the legitimate consequences of the abandonment of reformation attainments -- the violation of covenant engagements." In summary, this book (of 450 pages) is a one-of-a-kind chronicle of an integral part of the history of the battle for the "Crown Rights and Royal Prerogatives of the Lord Jesus Christ." OTHER REFORMATION RESOURCES SYNOD OF DORT The Canon Ratified in the National Synod of the Reformed Church Held at Dordrecht (1618-19) This classic Dutch Reformed standard, proclaiming the five points of Calvinism, refuted and condemned the Remonstrance (protest) found in the five Arminian articles of 1610, written by Johanness Uytenbogaert. Includes, for comparison, the five Arminian articles also. THOMSON, DAVID Songs To Be Used in the Worship of God (1848) An easy-reading introduction to the arguments defending exclusive Psalmody. Prepared under the authority of the Associate Synod. 21 pages. UNKNOWN Life of George Wishart: The Most Distinguished Martyr for the Reformation in Scotland... (1829) Wishart was a forerunner to the Scottish Reformation. John Knox was once his body guard, but was dismissed by this martyr as the murdering Papists drew near to apprehend him (on the orders of Cardinal Beaton). He was later burned as a heretic. Wishart "translated into English the first Helvetic Confession of Faith" and "helped popularize the doctrines of the Swiss Reformers in Scotland." "It was probably through Wishart that Knox acquired his sense of prophetic vocation" (Dictionary of Scottish Church History, pp. 465, 877). SLAVERY M'LEOD, ALEXANDER Negro Slavery Unjustifiable (1802) A Reformed Presbyterian minister, who pastored in New York, is here arguing from the Old Testament case law (Exodus 21:16) and from James 1:25 against Negro slavery. A strong anti-slavery testimony. RICE, N.L. (VERSUS J. BLANCHARD) A Debate on Slavery (1846) A debate, held in 1845 (i.e. before the war between the states), upon the question: is slave-holding in itself sinful, and is the relation between master and slave a sinful relation? The publishers note that at that time there was "no subject... receiving a greater share of the attention of Christendom" and "none certainly involving more important consequences to our civil and ecclesiastical institutions." Blanchard took the affirmative and Rice the negative. 482 pages. SUMNER, CHARLES The Barbarism of Slavery (1860) A speech on the bill for the admission of Kansas as a free state in the United States Senate, June 4, 1680. 32 pages.
